X-RAY OF PELVIS
X-ray Pelvis A/P View
X-ray Pelvis AP View (Supine)
Region:pelvis, pelvic girdle, hip joint, sacrum, coccyx, proximal femur
Pathology:fracture and bony lesion of hip bone, dislocation and arthritis of hip joint
Central Ray:perpendicular beam directed at the center of pelvis between pubic symphysis and anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS)
Respiration: suspended
Position:
1. The patient is placed in a supine position.
2. Place the center of pelvis at the center of the image receptor (IR).
3. Place the arm outside the clinical intent and place gonadal shielding within the extent of not interfering with the radiographic examination.
4. Immobilize pelvis in true anteroposterior position to prevent rotation and synchronize the distance between the bilateral anterior superior Iliac Spines (ASIS)
5. Invert both feet 15°.
Collimation:Include structures from the iliac crest to the proximal portion of femur.
Evaluation:
1. Anatomical structures of bilateral pelvis must be clearly shown in symmetrical image.
2. Sacrum and coccyx should be shown at the center of the image.
3. Lesser trochanter should either be partially seen or not be seen.
4. Bilateral ischial spines should be shown symmetrically.
kVp-75, mAs-20
Tip@
1. By posing both feet in inversion of 15°, anteversion of femoral neck can be prevented.
