X-RAY OF HUMERUS

X-RAY OF HUMERUS

X-ray Humerus A/P View

Humerus AP

Region: humerus, elbow joint, shoulder joint

Pathology: fracture and bony lesion of humerus

SID: 100 cm (40 inches)

Central Ray: perpendicular beam directed at the center of humerus

Respiration: suspended

Position:

1. The patient is placed either in a supine position or in an erect position.
2. Place the humerus at the center of the image receptor (IR).
3. Lean the body towards the IR to place the shoulder joint and proximal portion of the humerus tightly on the IR.
4. Supinate the hand and abduct the arm to align lateral epicondyle of elbow joint and medial epicondyle parallel to the IR.

Collimation: Include the entire humerus including the proximal portion of forearm and elbow joint.

Evaluation:

1. Greater tubercle is shown in lateral projection, and the contour of the lesser tubercle should be observed medial to the greater tubercle.
2. Distal portion of humerus, lateral epicondyle and medial epicondyle must be observerable.

X-ray Humerus Lateral View

Humerus Lateral (Mediolateral)

Region: humerus, elbow joint, shoulder joint

Pathology: fracture and bony lesion of humerus

SID: 100 cm (40 inches)

Central Ray: perpendicular beam directed at the center of humerus

Respiration: suspended

Position:

1. The patient is placed either in a supine position or in a erect position.
2. Adjust the posture of the elbow joint of the filming arm to 90° flexion.
3. Attach the humerus and shoulder joint tightly on image receptor (IR).

Collimation: Include the entire humerus including the proximal portion of forearm and elbow joint.

Evaluation:

1. Greater tubercle and lesser tubercle must overlap at the lateral portion.
2. Superimposition of distal portion of humerus, lateral epicondyle, and medial epicondyle should be seen

kVp-65, mAs-20

Tip:

1. Humerus Lateromedial Projection can be implemented depending on conditions of patient's trauma.
