X-RAY OF KUB
X-ray KUB A/P View
X-ray KUB A/P View (Supine)
- This view is useful in visualising calcifications anywhere along the renal tract (i.e. kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra).
- It is also used as baseline/interval images in contrast studies (i.e. intravenous urography).
Preparation: Wear cotton clothing or change into a gown before the X-ray, Remove metal objects like jewelry. Empty Stomach.
Region: kidney, ureter, urinary bladder, urethra
Indication/Pathology: nephrolithiasis, urolithiasis, obstructive uropathy, and hydronephrosis
FFD: 100 cm (40 inches)
Central Ray: perpendicular beam directed at the iliac crest with 0˚ angulation
Respiration: suspended
Position:
1. The patient is placed in a supine position.
2. Place the center of the image receptor (IR) 5cm above the center of the iliac crest.
3. Make sure pelvis and shoulders are not rotated
Collimation: Include all structures from the upper abdomen to the public symphysis.
Evaluation:
1. Figures of kidney and bladder must be observable in the image.
2. Pelvis and lumbar vertebrae should be shown symmetrically without rotation.
3. Spinal column should appear at the center of IR without rotation.
Factor: kVp-85, mAs-40
Tip:
1. When contrast medium is administered, contrast difference should show clearly due to contrast medium.
2. Intentionally delay the time after administering contrast medium and projecting flow of contrast media can be required.
