X-RAY OF FEMUR
X-ray Leg A/P View
Tibia AP
Region: tibia, fibula, ankle joint, knee joint
Pathology: fracture and bony lesion of tibia and fibula
SID: 100 cm (40 inches)
Central Ray: perpendicular beam directed at the center of the tibia
Respiration: unrelated
Position:
1. The patient is placed either in a supine
position or in a sitting position.
2. Ankle
joint and knee
joint must be position on the image receptor (IR) and pose the leg in
the true anteroposterior position
3. The leg can be placed diagonally on the IR to include when necessary.
Collimation: Include tibia and fibula.
Evaluation:
1. Ankle
joint and knee
joint must be inlucded
2. Tibia should
overlap with the bilateral ends of fibula.
kVp-52, mAs-6
Tip:
X-ray Leg Lateral View
Tibia Lateral
Region: tibia, fibula, ankle joint, knee joint
Pathology: fracture and bony lesion of tibia and fibula
SID: 100 cm (40 inches)
Central Ray: perpendicular beam directed at the center of the tibia
Respiration: unrelated
Position:
1. The patient is placed in a lateral
decubitus position.
2. While flexing the filming knee 45°, position ankle
joint and knee
joint on image receptor (IR).
3. Adjust the body to make patella perpendicular
to the IR.
Collimation: Include ankle joint and knee joint.
Evaluation:
1. Ankle
joint and knee
joint should not be rotated.
2. Tibia should
overlap with the bilateral ends of fibula and
should be parallel without overlap.
3. Overlapping of the femur and
the bilateral condyle should be seen.
kVp-52, mAs-6
Tip:
1. For patient who cannot make rotation,
place IR between legs and place the filming leg in the middle of IR. Then place
the patient in lateral decubitus position to project X-ray horizontally.
